The Department of ORL/Head and Neck Surgery as a surgical subspecialty has been in existence in University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo since August 1998.
SERVICES RENDERED
1. Out-patient Clinic – twice a week (Mondays & Thursdays)
2. Theatre sessions – once a week (Wednesdays)
3. Ward Rounds – daily
4. Clinical Conferences – once a week
RESIDENCY TRAINING
There are two residents in the Department. One is on outside postings while the other is a locum doctor.
RESEARCH/PUBLICATIONS
Some of the research works from the Department have been published. There are sill ongoing research works in the Department.
LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE
The Department recorded a high turnover of patients in 2009. Average patient turn out at the clinic was between 40 and 50 per clinic day. A total of 2,678 patients were seen in clinic in that year. The number of surgical operations also increased proportionately. The Department is now jointly operating the smile train program with plastic surgery unit.
